Borough Announces Zoning Ordinance Proposal

June 11, 2025 | Categories: Newsletter

Hello Everyone,

State College Borough has officially announced that the zoning ordinance will be released to the public soon. Although it has not been made available yet, please watch the website for updates later this week. https://www.statecollegepa.us/225/New-Zoning-Ordinance

This doesn't mean the battle is over; it is just beginning. There is likely to be significant pushback on the legalization of density from those in the community who have an interest in maintaining exclusionary zoning and avoiding investment in a sustainable future. We must demonstrate that the people of the borough and the region support increasing density, want to build a better future, welcome all, and are focused on environmental sustainability. This will increase housing access by legalizing denser units, lowering lot size minimums, and removing anti-density and anti-environmental legislation, such as the requirement for 40% lawn in the borough.

This is how you can show support right now:

Attend the Zoning discussions tomorrow or any other meeting this summer and share your support https://www.mobilize.us/paunited/event/772711/

If you are not able to attend, send an email to the council through this form in support of zoning: https://secure.everyaction.com/w0TZA3xAd0mgcYndNhBQVw2

If you want to get more involved, there are many organizing links where community members can sign up to discuss with others, speak their mind to the council, or simply learn more about what's happening. Sign up to attend:

This is becoming a regional push, and all of us need to work together to enhance the economic and environmental sustainability of the future. Remember, change is not inevitable, and people enable change! We must never assume this is done and continue to support our zoning changes through the inevitable challenges they will face.

Walk, bike and drive safe,

-STHV
